Richard Kuehnel is a member of the Circuits and Systems Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He has been a presenter at the International Conference on Signal Processing, the International Conference on Acoustics, Signals, and Signal Processing (ICASSP), and the Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers.

He has written for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems and is the inventor of five US patents: an oscilloscope display, an analog integrated circuit, two digital integrated circuits, and a Class D power amplifier.

He has written 9 books on guitar amplifier design, including

• Guitar Amplifier Electronics: Fender Deluxe,

He is also the author of online tutorials on the mathematics of guitar amp design, pentode preamp design, and vacuum tube circuit simulation.
